Nanyang Technological University
"We have been looking for a professor-friendly tool for the effective creation of content for quite some time now (since 2000). We recognize the simplicity and effectiveness of the talking head-synchronized talking head format for our academic environment. What has been lacking previously is the active format of the PowerPoint slides. Until AcuLe@rn, what we have encounterd were flattened JPEG images of the slides that nullified animation and transition effects, the hyperlinks and active objects".
Santa Clara, CA, USA
AcuLe@rn™ exhibits the only end-to-end e-learning platform at San Jose State University’s IT Professional Development Night. More than 20 technology partners were assembled to provide an informal discussion and networking platform for instructional design students and professors.

“As director of the San Jose State's ITPDN it's important that I give my instructional design students exposure to the latest distance learning technologies”, said Dr. Patty Viajar, Director of SJSU’s ITPDN. “AcuLearn's presence at this event helped give our students and faculty a real-world perspective of how technology, when thoughtfully applied, can stream knowledge to the masses in a practical and cost-effective way.”

Agilent Technologies
Vice-president and general manager of Agilent's fabless business division, Mr Lee Yih Neng, said: "This mode of training is especially useful when you have teams of workers who are geographically dispersed and bringing them together is both expensive and time consuming."

The company is using AcuLearn's video-based solutions to train staff in its sales, marketing and support departments in Singapore, Malaysia, Korea and the Philippines.

Video content, Mr Lee stressed, enhances the effectiveness of learning. "A picture, especially a moving picture, is always worth a thousand words.

Video clips are especially useful during product demonstrations." Video clips of lectures were also useful, Mr Lee said. "The visual image of the instructor has been proved to increase attention span. Other non-verbal messages, such as facial expressions also help improve learning."
China Telecom
China Telecom (Guangzhou), the most forward looking telecom operator in China, is searching for new services to enhance its value proposition to the customers. The BizNavigator platform is its Value-added Service Portal for SME and MNCs. The search was on. Aculearn proposed AcuCONFERENCE. AcuCONFERENCE is a part of Aculearn communication suite solution. The evaluation took about 2 months and Aculearn is selected as the platform for this service.

In the evaluation, AcuCONFERENCE system has demonstrated its simple to use GUI interface to the immediate liking of the users. The system manages to establish a connection through the China Telecom’s secure network using Microsoft Domain Authentication. Most importantly, the whole architecture is scalable to meet the demands as the users for this service expand. Our well thought of ASP workflow process also flow smoothly into the environment. Our unique VCDN also allow ASP to provide different class of services for different customers’ usage requirements.

Justice Online
Singapore justice system has been hailed to be one of the most effective and efficient system in the world. The judiciary system has capitalized on the use of technology to increase its efficiency and effectiveness in serving the needs of the country. Singapore Justice On Line is initiated to improve many areas of the judiciary processes using technology.

One of the key area is court attendance. There are many cases that the sub courts need to handle each year. Some of the cases such as default payments, parking and traffic fines that can be processed within 10 to 30 minutes. However, the lawyer will need to spend time on commuting in heavy traffic and waiting for his time outside the court room.

Using Justice On Line system, the lawyer will be able to save on the commute and waiting time entirely. During the appointed time, the lawyer will go to the website and click on his court room. He will be put on wait list till the case before him is finished. When it comes to his case, the court will “click” to invite him into the virtual court room.

VISA
Visa's senior manager for regional network infrastructure, Mr Tang Kim Yee, elaborated: "The solution allows us to train our engineers on technology updates as soon as they happen."

Trainees, Mr Tang stressed, remember video lessons better than text-based lessons. "Video-based learning is definitely more effective than reading a dry training manual."

Unlike classroom training, video lessons can be rerun any time, without much additional cost or effort. "This is especially useful for new employees and vendors as well," said Mr Tang. Newcomers can now be trained as soon as they join the company.

Even employees who have been around for a while, such as network engineer Andy Quek, said they benefit immensely from the new implementation.

"I view the video modules as a technical information resource, which can be accessed any time I wish," said Mr Quek, who's in his mid-20s. "This would not be possible in a classroom situation."

Senior engineer at Visa, Ms Lily Lee, pointed out that putting the content online allowed it to be accessible to a much larger pool of trainees.

Said Ms Lee, a product trainer: "Using the video tool also helps our overseas vendors save travel time and costs, a factor that today's busy professionals deeply appreciate."
